COP21 kicks off in Paris; Corporate Climate Commitments Build

UN Global Compact Network Australia | December 2, 2015

In a week’s time, government and business leaders from around the world will gather in Paris for COP21.

The UN Climate Conference aims to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement with the ambitious goal of keeping global warming below 2°C – the threshold beyond which science tells us climate risks become unacceptably high. The Caring for Climate Business Forum at COP21 will bring business leaders and investors together with governments and the UN to contribute and advance the climate agenda.

A number of our members have joined a growing number of companies around the world who have taken action and made commitments in the lead up to COP21:

  • Bank Australia is the first bank worldwide to commit to all seven climate commitments under the We Mean Business platform. Other GCNA members who have made commitments include: ANZ Bank, Brambles, Deloitte, KPMG, NAB, Nestle, PwC, Shell, Singtel Optus and Westpac.
  • The CEOs of Accenture, Nestle, PwC and Visy Industries joined other business leaders in writing an open letter to the World Economic Forum urging for ‘bold action’ at COP21. The letter is supported by 78 CEOs, whose companies are operating in over 150 countries with a combined revenue of $2.1 trillion (USD) in 2014.
