Inaugural Anti-Corruption Leadership Group Forum: Sydney

The Inaugural meetings of the Anti-Corruption Leadership Group will focus on how business can respond from a policy and compliance perspective to obligations imposed by anti-bribery laws in Australia and internationally, including by the recently introduced UK Bribery Act. The program will update on domestic and international developments in anti-bribery laws, including the UK Bribery Act, which came into force on 1 July 2011. It will also focus on how business can respond to these obligations, through its policy and compliance activity. This issue will be explored through presentations by leading government representatives, followed by a business focused panel that will discuss experiences with achieving compliance in Australia and on the ground, overseas.

Session 1: Australian Anti-Bribery Laws: An Overview: Overview of obligations imposed on Australian business by Australian anti-bribery laws both in Australia and overseas, including recent developments in anti-bribery related international initiatives. Presenter: Peter Scott, Director, Sanctions and Transnational Crime, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Session 2: Anti-Bribery Laws Overseas: Recent Developments: Overview of recent developments in enactment and enforcement of overseas anti-bribery laws of particular relevance to Australian business, including the recently enacted UK Bribery Act and Chinese anti-bribery laws. Session 3: Implementing anti-bribery policies and compliance programs: The Business Perspective: Panel discussion of experiences developing and implementing anti-bribery compliance programs across a business group. The panel will also discuss their experiences dealing with issues of bribery and corruption 'on the ground', particularly in countries with a higher risk of corruption. A multinational business and SME have been selected for the panel, to ensure diversity of experience shared.
