Anti-Corruption

The Anti-Corruption Leadership Group for Business was established by the UN Global Compact Network Australia to help Australian business share learning and best practice on combating bribery and corruption. The Anti-Corruption Leadership Group is led by Rachel Nicolson, a Senior Associate at Allens Arthur Robinson and a director on the board of the UNGCNA.

Anti-corruption is a significant issue for business and industry, both small and large organisations. As our supply chains become more complec and diverse, as we see a range of challenges being integrated such as the connections between human rights, labour and corruption, we need to understand what the key drivers are and how to address them.

In addition comes the very real need to understand who is doing what and where, what regulations and legal frameworks exist, what those frameworks mean for business operating both at home and offshore, and how do we then tie all of that in to something meaningful for members?

The UNGCNA has established an Anti-corruption Leadership Group that will utilise the skills and knowledge of expert advisors, Government and business stakeholders to deliver a range of forums to members to assist in the this knowledge creation and collaboration. On the one hand the UNGCNA Anti-corruption Leadership Group will provide an insight into case studies, share experiences from a range of business and industry stakeholders and engage collaboratively with Government and the Authorities to provide snaphots of the compliance requirments and the legal implications.

Our first series of Anti-corruption Leadership Groups will be held in Sydney and Melbourne in November 2011 and will consist of a panel sessions, the presentation of various case studies and an overview of the legal frameworks. These first two forums when then begin to inform content and knowledge that will be made directly availlable to UNGCNA members.

As we move into 2012, the UNGCNA expects to run additional forums in Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. For more information on how you can get involved email your request through to secretariat@unglobalcompact.org.au or click the links on SYDNEY or MELBOURNE to register. As this is a member only event, registration fees may be charged for non-members of the UNGCNA.

Anti-corruption, labour and human rights are all interconnected elements - so what are the key challenges, how can we learn more and what are the legal implications we need to be across?
