UN takes a stand on the right to privacy

On 25 November, the UN’s Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee adopted a resolution to protect digital privacy and urged governments to offer redress to people affected by privacy violations. The resolution warns of the risk of violating the right to privacy through the rapid development of new technologies.

The resolution is a reminder to business to ensure respect for human rights both offline and online, including in data collection, retention and surveillance.
